top speed LT1
top speed LT1
I was wondering what a stock LT1 will top out at. I have a 97 SS M6 with 3.42's a few mods here and there and last night i took it for a spin and was doing 140 in 5th with a lot of power left. I didnt want to go much higher cause i dont think my one tire will make it, and i was comming up on some cars and didnt want to do 150+ past a cop. i should easily be able to past my speedo right? most of my mods are in my sig.
Re: top speed LT1
I have buried mine a few times. It can be done.
I read a book last night with highlights from magazines since 1993 all on F-body's. The LT1's usually maxed out in the 160's.

Re: top speed LT1
around 125-130 it started to viberate a little bit. once i get some new tires i'll probably git it another shot. without a cage i didnt want to risk my tire blowing and killing myself, a cage would help a little i think. I've had it to just over 125 on a dyno and like 115 on the road before, starting at 70 in 6th.
last night i dropped it to 3rd at around 50 and took off, i flew past a car that was doin about 60 or 70. when i started he was way in front of me, i probably scared the **** out of him my car was screaming, i must admit it was fun. i don't know how the nascar guys can drive 170+ for hours straight. my tires arent even Z rated.

145 in my Z28 with 2.73's took allot of road or at least I though so.
That's what spun my rod bearing.
O well at least now I can take my time and build the original one.

If you have a scanner, even after you pin the speedo you can still read your speed accurately right from the PCM.

What
So we can't make a car that does over 255 MPH.
And there are no car's that go over 255MPH?
I must be misunderstanding what your talking about.

Re: top speed LT1
my car is an automatic and i was doing about 147 at 5500 rpm's, in dont know if the torque converter will lock up or not under that much load, but with a manual and that double overdrive i can definetly believe 160+, i have heard upwards of 165 is possible but i have never seen it personally. i have gone 170 on a bike and i am not sure i would want to do it in a car. crotch rocket+170mph=adrenaline rush,, car+170mph= death wish, in my opinion. cars dont stop so fast from that speed (even on their roof!!!)
Re: top speed LT1
Not to sound uncool or anything, but I really hope you guys don't kill anybody driving that fast. That's pretty reckless in my opinion and I doubt most of you have the skill you think you do at those speeds.

Not sure of other models.... My '93 was clocked at 154mph by police radar with a -1/+1 mph of error....
