tool size for plugs under the intake

Hey guys,

Who knows the size of the allen headed plugs, under the intake? I am playing with a spare intake I have and am trying to pull those plugs but my largest allen key is still too small, I think the biggest I have is either 5/16 or 3/8...

If nobody knows what these are can you at least tell me how allens are measured? I did a google search but couldn't fined it, like is that 5/16 is from flat edge to the opposite flat edge, is from one point to opposite point, or something even stranger like from a point to the center of the second flat from that point?

I guess this is a chance to breakout out that digital caliper I got for x-mas and measure it myself...

Find a hex-head bolt that fits, double nut it and use the correct socket for the nuts.

Good idea, Fred. I'm not sure what plugs you're talking about, though. Inside the lifter valley?

The plugs are mounted to the bottom of the intake, not in the lifter valley.

Thanks, for that idea fred and thanks sko_spo for the size and I have quite a few 9/16 bolts laying around to use freds suggeston...

Seawolf - The plugs I was refering too are in the underside of the intake itself, in the part of the intake that does sit in the lifter valley, so yes and no...

I know what you're talking about now. I didn't take them off to clean them, my friend did and he works at a garage so he prolly had a tool for it.

The plugs come out VERY hard unless you heat them up with a torch a little. Not real hot, just good and warm. Must be some Locktite or something. Mine wouldn't budge until heated, then came out really easily.
