Timing retard. ?????

just the other day i was driving my car and just cking how everything was running with my scanmaster lt1 and i noticed that timing was being retared up to 8 degress when at full throtle. but it varys.

in my sig you can see most of my mods. i do have an lt4 knock module.

?Could this because i have not yet tuned my computer back from ed wright? Running stock computer with egr turned off. at the moment

Is this normal and will the computer tuning fix any problem?

Thanks in advance

The PCM will pull timing if any knock is detected. Get the car on a scanner and see what the knock count is...

hey man, my car is doing the same thing except I have no LT4 Knock Module, i think the Roller Rockers and cam have a lot to do with it, put some 100 octane in it and if the knock is still there then i would just edit it out completly from the computer, mine takes the spark advance back to like 12 and really cuts the power, so if you think its not real knock then just get rid of it..... hope this helps... good luck!! What part of GA you from? We have a bunch of quick F-Bodies round here and too many mustangs to pick on... lol.. later

I would almost be willing to be my left nut that you have an exhaust leak somewhere. A while back, I was getting 9 degrees of knock retard at WOT, turned out I had an exhaust leak at the very rear of my car that was setting off the knock sensor at the very front of my car. I couldn't explain it, but as soon as I got the leak fixed, the knock retard was gone.

Check for any exhaust leaks...and you could put some 100 or 104 octane gas in the car...if the knock continues, then you have false knock somewhere. If the knock goes away with the higher octane gas, then you have real knock.

Just a thought and I have been through this same **** that you are going through, so if you have any trouble or questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Hope this helps...

Thanks guys i have been noticing what sound like a slight, slight exhaust leak. but it is not loud enough to pen point. if it is that slight could it still retard that much.

Well, lets just put it this way...I had a hole just big enough to cause a dime sized carbon buildup on the underside of the body, which would tend to be fairly small...I dunno what it is, but I am not the first person to comment on these knock sensors picking up false knock through exhaust leaks.

Damn stupid computers these days.
