timing off , wont fire

in the process of putting together a H&C swap , I had a buddy do the timing chain and the opti. To make a long story short when starting the car, it misses and does not even fire right, it wants to start . I have fuel, spark etc.

Would it fire if the timing was off a tooth?
I was also thinking the valves could be too tight?

You can check the t-chain by finding tdc and refer to the opti location...

Its possible the Opti was not indexed correctly to the cam. But you didn't tell us the year of your car, so its hard to tell if that's the cause. 93-94 use a splined shaft that can easilly be misaligned, throwing the timing off, but allowing it to run poorly if its only off a tooth. 95-97 use the cam dowel, and the Opti can fit three different ways (two of them incorrect), but will generally not even run because the timing is fo far off.

Why not add a "signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods. Makes it a lot easier for people to help you. All years of the LT1 are not identical in many respects.

I went through this once and made a very stupid mistake and all your symptoms sound just like mine. I had the cam gear off and it did the exact same thing. If you try to start with your foot to the floor it will start(barely) and as soon as you let off it dies. I would start by looking at the cam gear and seeing if he put it on wrong. Sucks but that was my problem.

How could the timing be off a tooth? You line up the 2 dot and bam its in time.
