Timing Chain / Set Options?

I have searched and found some old threads, but didnt find any answers really.

I have just about everything purchased for my Z28 build with the exception of the timing chain.

The cam is a LE grind on a billet core. It is a 236/236 @ .050", I will be using 1.6 NSA rockers with 7/16th studs and the valve springs are Comp Bee Hive Springs (unsure of the weight).

I will be using the stock water pump so I need it to work with that.

So basicly the only choices I have are:

Stock = $110 From GMpartsDirect With Sprockets

Maybe a OEM equivelant made by someone else?

LT4 Chain = $250 from jegs

when looking for the cam gear I get an option for 93-97, or 95-97. one is more expensive. I dont understand, I have a 95 how do I know what one I need?

What else is out there?
What do you recomend?. I dont want to spend more than $130 if I dont have to.

Jason from Sam Taylor. Shoebox has the numbers on his site. I am pretty sure I paid under $200 for mine. That was 3 yrs ago........It'll be hard to do it for under $130.

Jason is from Sam Taylor Buick. I believe in Florida. That was for the extreme duty lt4 timing set.

Try this link. Infact, bookmark his site. Sometimes it is easier to use his site than my factory manual. Lots of useful info. He put a lot of time into it , guessing from the many pages, photos, etc.

That set is for an unvented opti.

Whuile lots of guys will tell you to put a "better" chain in there the stocker works quite well, certainly wont be the weak link in your setup.

Or, maybe it would be a good idea to just go with the electric water pump, then I would be able to get a nice strong chain for a good price.

what are my options then?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CSR-B...spagenameZWDVW

there is the waterpump. can I use just about any chain then?

what about modifying the cover?

I am not a believer in the whole idea that we have to use electric pumps so we can use "good" chains.

Stock setup was made with the substantial load of the WP in mind, if you think it is weak just swapping to an electric WP alone would take substantial load off of the chain thereby making it less likely to break.

Maybe we will run into eachother at WIR or GLD.
