timing?

about 2 months ago my camaro broke down. finally started working on it and the problem was that the key broke on the crankshaft which caused it to got out of time. now my question is should i put both dots on the sprockets at 12 o'clock like the hanes manual says or should it be different sense i have diferent cams on the car?

This is whats done to the car: 96 Z28 Camaro has a new lt1 motor with a erson cam . Cam specs are 226/232 585/585 on a 113 lsa. Mods on the motor include 36lbh delphi injectors,58 mm throtle body, longtube headers pbm valve springs good to 600 lift.3 angle valve job and 1.6 bowtie roller rockers.Trans is a auto with a 2800 edge stall and shift kit.Rear end has 373 gears with a locker and t/a girdle.Car has full cat back 3 inch borla exhaust aswell.

Re: timing?

Since the crank turns at twice the speed that the cam does, the dots will line up in numerous positions, both at 12oclock, both together, etc. Aiming the dots at eachother is easier to get them straight because they are right next to each other. The cam gear should only go onto the cam 1 way.
