I've had some ticking now for a few months. Ive noticed that at idle the ticking is only present every five seconds. It will tick for 3 seconds then stop for 5 and cycle again. This is only at idle. Once i hit the gas and bring it to any rpm above idle the ticking becomes constant. I've thought maybe a bad lifter or possibly a bent pushrod.

Although I won't try to offer any explanation why it might be intermittent, I will suggest that you make sure your spark plugs are tight. A loose plug will make a ticking sound and if left alone will cause serious damage to the threads in the spark plug hole. Better safe than sorry!

 

Just curious, hows your oil pressure look?

 

I just had a problem similar to that and after months of guessing I figured it out today. CHECK TO MAKE SURE ALL YOUR SPARK PLUGS ARE TIGHT!

 

Oil pressure is good, spark plugs are good.
