Ti locks and retainers

So I never really considered installing these due to the price, but I recently read that they free up 10-15 HP. Is anyone running titanium and is it worth it?

This is the thing that got my attention:

"11.In similar fashion to the previous photos, this dyno sheet shows the improved performance of the beehive springs on the same big-block engine. Horsepower improvements range from 1-2 horsepower to as much as 12 hp with just a spring change."

Here is the link to the article

That is changing from a standard spring to a beehive, not only going to ti retainers.

It will help high rpm valvetrain stability, but you wont see 10-15hp from just a retainer change.

Correct, I was just thinking that if the lighter springs gave you that much HP, that retainers and locks might give similiar gains.

Just curious: Your mods don't seems to include any power mods except the headers and CAI. If you are running stock springs you are already at a disadvantage, so any improvement in the spring area will benefit you. Ti components, while very nice, are not necessary unless you are really spinning some RPM, which you arent. If you want to do some improvements, I suggest going with non-SA 1.6 RRs and some good dual springs. I don't know what advantage the hehives have over conventional springs----afterall the article you cite is an ad.

But if you are already running RRs, springs, etc. than I may be wrong. JMHO

That's kind of where I was going. I am looking to do some pro mags, and was wondering if it was worth going with Ti hardware.

Question

Not to hijack the thread but are there any drawbacks to usingTi retainers and 10° locks on a daily driver? Also, how many grams do you save with a Ti retainer instead of the standard LT1 piece?

From what I've read, you save about 45% over steel, which accounts to about 6% total drivetrain reduction.

no drawbacks. Drawdowns, as in checking account. If you are spinning in the neighborhood of 7grand, I guess TI would be beneficial, but I'd spend my money on something else, meanwhile. JMHO

I've found that the standard pushrod is ~ 44 gms and a Trickflow Chrome-moly pushrod is ~ 51 gms. The LT1 retainer is ~ 15.4 gms and a set of std keepers (locks) is ~ 3.3 gms. I guess I've got a case of "cabin fever" and am thinking about a "to do list" for the spring thaw!!
