Yeah, try the torque arm. Also look at the lower control arm bushings. My Iroc had a bad control arm bushing and did the same thing. Maybe a motor mount. Hope nuthin majors broke.

loose swar bar where it mounts to the axle ...if its loose it will rotate a little and made a popping noise because of the friction

I know you said its not the tranny mount but are you sure??... If your running a stock mount it compresses over time and will appear to look fine but when you floor the car it streach out severly and let the tranny stop hit the tunnel. It will not break the mount on alot of M6 cars since we have the little bumb stop on the top of our trannys.
I only suggest this because I just went thought it. It was fine untill I put on Drag radials and stressed it to the max and then came the big BANG.

Did you take out the trans mount and visually inspect it?

I have had this quite a few times, it was always either a broken trans mount or broken torque arm.

i had a bold that connected the torque arm come off wich made it swat and hit the metal around it when i accelerated, to see if you got the same problem get under your car and try to push it too see if it will move. if it does then a bolt is probobly loose somewhere.
