Throttle body bypass in the winter..

does anybody leave their Throttle body bypass connected during the winter?
I kno the coolant flows through to keep the blades from freezing up, but has anyone ran the bypass through the winter..
I also got the 160 T-stat and Madz28tune with the fans set to turn on low

Re: Throttle body bypass in the winter..

Just an FYI, throttle body blades will not "freeze up" due to cold weather. It's OK to run the bypass all year long.

I ran the bypass all year around when I had my transam. After a big snow strom my 94 T/A had no problem starting up with the bypass and 160stat thermo. But my moms 03 Nissan altima failed to start .

AFAIK, everyone that has the bypass keeps it that way during the winter. There is absolutely no problem in doing so.

Re: Throttle body bypass in the winter..

Have you put your hands on a running motor lately. Not exactly cold, there is enough heat coming from the motor to keep the tb warm while running, and as far as start up, well everything is cold. I think the engineer that wasted his time designing it must have been a first year college drop out. Oh, and if you put caps on the tb ports where you removed the lines, then you wasted your time, Nothing going in equals nothing coming out.

I think the heat of the engine would more than keep the TB warm enough to keep from freezing. I run mine all year but I'm not "up north" either.

On another note, is the y-pipe still doing the job bow94z?

In the how-to's for doing th TB bypass they all say to put little plastic caps to cover up the tubes where coolent flowed through the throttle body, and they're completely unnessecary.

Unnecessary, unless you like your engine compartment to look neat and "finished". To me, that's not a waste of time.

I always thought those caps looked cheesy, So now I cut the nipples off and fill the hole in flush with epoxy when I do a throttle body for someone with a showcar

Apparently, that is something new for that smiley, lol.

I don't say they are necessary. It does keep dirt an grime out if you decide to put it back the way it was. It also keeps certain insects from making homes in the pipes.
