throttle body bypass

apparently i am stupid because ive been looking at shoebox's how-to for the throttle body bypass and then going out and looking at my car and still cant quite figure this out. if im standing at the front of the car...i see a hose going into the throttle body on the right hand side and i see the other hose that goes to the metal steam pipe. (well the one with the arrows on it in the how-to picture) im not exactly sure if im looking at the right things...i havent taken anything apart yet because its really cold outside and uncomfortable to work, so perhaps it will be easier once i take the intake tube off. is the hose i see on the right hand side supposed to be the one that connects to the steam pipe? anyone have any different pictures of this so perhaps my dumb self can comprehend this?

thanks,
adam

Yes, the one that goes from the top left (standing in front of the car) of the radiator going to the bottom right of the TB, will be the one that gets connected to the steam pipe on the left of the TB..
The little elbow piece that currently conects the steam pipe to the bottom left of the TB will be removed and not reused...

Re: throttle body bypass

What year is your car? 93/94 have one hose configuration, 95-97 have a different one. Steam pipe goes directly to the radiator in the 93/94 cars, not to the TB.

Re: throttle body bypass

The question is simple, what year car do you have?

The reason for asking is because there is different routing for different years, you mentioned Shoebox's instructions in your first post and I assumed it is for a 95 or new car, but like Injuneer pointed out we don't know what year you have, and 93-94 car were different from 95-97 in regards to the routing of the tubes.

Re: throttle body bypass

I need to do it on my car this spring. I know how to do it but will i lose a lot of coolant? I want to minimize that because i dont feel like buying anymore coolant. I flushed it when i got my car and had a water pump leak later so i had to buy some more. Can ai do anything to minimize coolant loss?

Re: throttle body bypass

Anyone actually DYNO'd any real gains from this mod. It seems so easy and silly to do, but what if any is the REAL benefit? Butt dyno or Real dyno anyone felt a diff???

Also, speaking of lowering Intake air charge temps.. anyone thought of Cryogenically Cooling the Upper-Intake manifold? I saw this CRYO system thing in the summit catalog. It looks like its for Imports but seems basically universal.. " includes 3" intake adapter to cool incoming air ..etc"..
Sounds like they are on to something..similar to NOS..

Just a thought...

That helps. (You might want to add a "signature" with basic info like the year of your car, trans type and any major mods, to help people answer your tech questions).

You pull the hose off the drivers side throttle body connector, and the hose off the passenger side throttle body connector, and use a 3/8" brass barbed hose connection, and two clamps to connect the two hoses together.

Its always a good idea to drain some of the coolant out of the system, using the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator. Just enough to get it below the level of the throttle body. In addition to minimizing the replacement coolant required, it minimizes the risk of dumping coolant on the Opti. When you are done, put the coolant you drained back in the system, and follow the required steps to bleed air from the system.
