Thoughts/Comments on Painting my already coated Jet Hot LT's
Ok here is the deal. I am going to be swaping a 383 into my 1994 TA. My TA currently has a set of coated Jet Hot LT's, 3" y-pipe (no cats), and an slp loudmouth which i will be using again for my 383. The coating on my jet hots is starting to flake off and rust, now i know they have a life time warrenty, BUT the swap has to be done in one weekend (using a lift). I cannot have any downtime waiting for parts to get recoated. I have access to a glass bead blaster at the shop where I am going to do my swap. What are your opinions on glass beading ALL the coating off, preping the metal and putting some 1200, or 1500 degree black paint on them. I read alot of posts and got some mixed feelings, what would you all do? Any comments/opinions welcomed.
Re: Thoughts/Comments on Painting my already coated Jet Hot LT's
I ended up painting part of my Jet Hot coated Y-pipe with high temp aluminum paint--has held up well over the past 8 months, blends in nicely with the jet hot coating. In my case, I had my car in a shop to install gears (only thing I wouldn't do myself). Went to pick the car up and the owner of the shop sent some kid out to get my car. As I waited outside I saw him approach and proceed to drive straight on to a HUGE speed bump
. Before I could scream to him to either cut the wheels or god forbid, go around the damn speed bump I heard a loud bang and scraping noise
. Sooo, I ended up blending in some paint--worked out nice. Just take some fine grade sand paper, rough up the coating a little and try the high temp paint.......

I wouldnt bead blast them all. In the past with mine i have used wire wheels to get rid of rust and flaking coating. Then sprayed with hi temp rustoleum primer. Then over coated with high temp ceremic paint. Stuff looks really good and lasts as long as you dont scrape them.
