For those of you looking to upgrade your stock elbow
For those of you looking to upgrade your stock elbow
My stocker had a big rip in it and I didn't want to spend $100 on a Vortech or $70 on a 1LE so I took a gamble and bought one of those $40 Mojo Motorsports elbow kits off of ebay. I had done some searching on here for info about it and I didn't find anything promising about the fitment or the quality but I decided to go ahead and get one anyway. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with both the quality and fitment. By the picture, I was expecting some flimsy thin piece of aluminum but it's actually pretty thick stuff, about 1/4" I'd say. It fit absolutely perfect, even with my AS&M CAI. Everything I needed was included and the install only took about 5 minutes with no probs whatsoever. The only downside is that it's pretty dull compared to the shiny polished vortech's but I'm not that picky so it doesn't bother me one bit. Plus it looks 10x better than the stock elbow. So anyway, if you want a cheap replacement for your stock elbow I'd highly recommend looking into one of these. If I remember, I'll snap a pic of it on my car when I get home.

I got it also and although there were some blemishes in the finish, overall it looked great when installed. I relocated the IAT and used the IAT hole to mount my shark nozzle. Very satisfied.
Re: For those of you looking to upgrade your stock elbow
Would it be possible to paint it black, or wouldnt paint adhere to well to it? I would like a black elbow to match my SLP CAI but they only offer the polished unit.
Re: For those of you looking to upgrade your stock elbow
Paint would adhere to it very well I think. And it fits my 52mm TB fine. I'm upgrading to a 58mm next week and hopefully it fits up to that one as well.
Re: For those of you looking to upgrade your stock elbow
next question, lol, People keep saying that with an aftermarket elbow, I'll need to drill a hole somewhere (??) for the vented opti, but that makes no sense to me. Someone explain??
Re: For those of you looking to upgrade your stock elbow
With the vented opti you have a vent line that runs from the opti to the intake elbow. If you didnt want to drill a hole in the elbow you could also install the vent line in the plastic air intake tube after the filter and befor the MAF or if you have a 93 befor the aluminum elbow.

Shoebox has the stock Opti vent line shown on one of his website pictures..... look in the lower right hand corner, the blue elbow sticking into the rubber elbow.

Id keep the vent line between the MAF and the TB, since the air flows from the elbow to the Opti, and then into the side of the intake manifold, where it ends up as "combustion air". Better if the MAF measures that, even if it is a small flow.

Good thing you guys mentioned that about the opti vent line, I wondered what that hose was for. lol When I pulled it out with the old elbow it wasn't connected to anything on the other end so I just left it off. I guess I'll have to drill a hole and get that hooked back up when I get home, that will give me a good excuse to snap some pics too. Should have them up in a few hours.
Re: For those of you looking to upgrade your stock elbow
Here are some pics. All I did for the vent line was take a punch and poke a small hole into the coupler, then fought like hell to shove that little blue fitting in there til it popped into place. I would think it should seal pretty good as tight as it is, but if not I'll just find a grommet.

Should look nice when I finally get around to installing my coated pacesetters.
