Thinking of doing a cam swap in my 396 stroker, what duration would be best. Post your horse power & torque your car makes with duration of the camshaft, please!

So far, (with ignition breakup and with the base tuning maps) my 396 made 647 hp @ 6,600 rpm (before the ignition dip), 637 hp @ 7,400 rpm (after the ignition dip), and ~560-570 lb-ft. of torque, give or take, at around 5,000-5,200 (don't have exact figures yet). For the dyno numbers I do have, torque was 532 lb-ft. @ 5,900, 509 lb-ft. @ 6,600, and 407 lb-ft. @ 7,600 rpm.

My cam is a Cam Motion custom grind in the 260-270 range on intake and duration @ 0.050", 0.685"/0.685" lift (w/1.6:1 rockers), and 112 lsa. I'm using AFR 215cc RR heads converted for use on the LT1, delivered bare and opened up to about 213cc on the intake, with 2.10"/1.625" valves. They flow in the high 330s over 0.650" lift @ 28 in. I also have a custom Hogan's intake manifold.

Iam currently running 242in. 254ex. 620lift, when I switched to Lt1 castings, to AFR 210cc was told to run 255in. 262ex. 660 or 670lift. What do you recommend I can benefit from this change? Currently made 420hp & 379fpt, not very happy.

At the rear wheels, I'm assuming.

Who recommended the 255/262 cam, and what was their reasoning?

Nick Norris (Nu-tek Motorsports), because of the different flow characteristics (AFR 210cc vs. Ported Lt1 castings).

Sounds like a plan, then.

If you already have a solid roller cam, then you know what to expect. You need a little more cam (like Nick is suggesting) to match the heads and displacement, and you'll probably pick up a fairly significant gain. Whether it will meet your expectations or goals is something only you can answer, though.
