Those with Borla LT1 cat-back exhaust....

I have the adjustable Borla on my Z.
What are your guys feelings on performance with respect to the adjustable plates.
I have read the the 1 3/4" open plate makes more power thaen no plate.
I have also heard the the closed plates makes more torque.
I will be going to the dyno and I want the highest power making combination for the readings.

alot of people say the cutouts are worth a few tenths/horses. it might make a lil more torque with the closed one but what are you honestly shooting for? dyno numbers or track numbers? there are a few cars around here that have made 800+ on the dyno and get raped on a regular.

It would seem to me that all LT1 lack the higher RPM grunt.
I would think that using the larger opening plates you could shift the power upwards.
Im sure someone has played around with the plates to learn their characteristics.

Back in 2002 I dyno'd with boltons and put down 292/328 with the Borla electric plate closed. Wide open it put down 289/328, go figure.

After H&C the plate was holding back 20 HP in closed position.

I just found this:
http://www.ws6.com/mod-5.htm

According to this there is practically no difference in closed or open plates.

I put the plate with the next to biggest hole and I can feel a diffrence in low and mid power, it appears to have lost power.
With the small hole plate when flooring it in 2nd gear the tires would consistently break traction and now they wont with the big hole plate. I cant tell if higher RPM are effected one way or the other.
I have also read that Borla reeomends the small hole plate for most near stock applications and to use the big hole plates for strokers and power adders.

Personally I would rather just have something that performs at its maximum capability all the time. Duals or a highflow full catback. Cutouts, plates and whatever else are just a pain in my opinion.

Dont worry about dyno numbers they are just braggin rights, the track is where I'd try to find what works.

I've never ran a plate in mine. But I have also never tested the differences.

I've run my Borla since 1995 with no plate at all...Sounds wicked with my current set up, but I've never done a plate diameter dyno comparison. Try different sizes on your next track outing...

It depends on the combo. The more power you are making, the more difference it will make. On mine, I have back to back dyno tests and there is a 17hp difference between the solid plate and no plate. On a lower hp car you would see less difference or maybe none at all.

I have a Borla, and I'm currently running the plate that's next to the full open one [previous owner used it, haven't changed it yet]. There's going to be a dyno meet next year locally, and if the shop allows, I'll bring all my plates with me and see if they really do make a difference.
