Think my motor took a dump, but wanted to see what you guys thought?
1997 Firebird 80K LT1, was passing someone on the highway, and took her up to 6K, Once I was around the vehical I slowed down and proceeded to give my car some gas and it started shaking with a heavy vibration that felt like it was coming from the Transmission. I limped her the rest of the way home.
I figured it might be the piolet bearing since the vibration felt like it was coming from the transmission. I pulled the transmission and the piolet bearing was oval shaped so I figured I found my culprit.
I changed the bearing and decided to check and see if the car would still make the same noise without the transmission or pressure plate installed. And to my misfourtune the car is still loud, and vibrating mad. I supposed the rear main bearing took a crap on me, but I wanted to make sure I have not over looked anything.
Is there anything I can do to see if the motor is gone? I drained the oil and found metal shavings on my drain plug but nothing that I have not seen from oil changes in the past.
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks

if you have metal in the oil that is bad, it definitely sounds like you spun a bearing

Same here. I have spun one and had no change in oil pressure... Or at least not enough of a change to be seen by the guage.. You motor probably crapped...

happy happy joy joy
My oil pressure is reading normal, but I suppose this is what I get for over revving the damn thing

before your get too terribly excited i would suggest a compression test... maybe all you did was bend a valve or something like that and now you have a bad miss in one hole.
Re: Think my motor took a dump, but wanted to see what you guys thought?
Exactly I don't want to get too excited, and purchase a new short block if it is not needed. I will run a compression test and go from there.

The only other thing I can thing of is I changed the plugs about two weeks before my incedent. So I thought maybe a plug wire cam off and the, no power, heavy vibration and loud knocking sound was maybe a mis fire, but I am not getting any codes

My car was misfiring like crazy for a couple of weeks before I found out that i ended up getting 2 BAD sets of spark plug wires from Autozone. I will never put a set of cheap wires in my car AGAIN! I now have MSD 8.5mm wires.
However, the whole time it was misfiring and jerking, i didn't once get a check engine light!
