Re: thermostat ?

230-245 is really high......mine doesnt get that hot after the intall....check ur coolant level again and bleed it again and c what happens.....there is a way to put teh stat in backwards too....did u put it in the right way .....probably not cuz itr seems like it opens up.....also a fan switch or reprogram to get the fans to come on earlier would benefit u alot

Re: thermostat ?

You have it installed wrong. Yes you have to reprogram your pcm, optimal running temp is 180-220. You do not need a 160.

Re: thermostat ?

You get the right thermostat? The small block Chevy is not correct.

Next week I will be installing a 160* thermostat and hopefully I will not have the same problem(s).
What was your temps before you installed the 160* thermostat? If you did not have these problems before I would start undoing what you did. First of all I would change your programming back to what it was before (stock ?). My understanding is you don't need to reprogram when using a 160* thermostat and that information comes from one of our best resources. Check the coolant level and bleed, bleed, bleed. Check to see if the thermostat is the correct one and that it is installed correctly. All of us make mistakes and I am becoming an expert at them Make sure your fans are connected. Go to Shoebox's page to see how to test them. Test your new thermostat to see if it is opening correctly and at teh correct temperature. If you can get it to work as a stock then start the installation process over again. I am hoping you resolve this problem soon and I want to know what was the problem. It is a lonely world when yuo work on your car alone and things don't work correctly. Thanks the heavens for CamaroZ28.com

Re: thermostat ?

yes reprogramming the computer is nto necessary, but when u want ur car to stay cool and nevr get up to the 210+ mark then reprogramming teh PCM will bring out teh whole benefit of teh 160thermotat
