Arrow Temp Gauge Questions???

Ok I have a Temp Gauge issue with my car, I know you propably have gone over this time and again but read this and give me your input about it.
I'm driving home from work in Arizona (113 degrees) the temp gauge will go 1/2 way and hang steady there untill I floor it or drive at high RPM's then it climbs to 3/4 or higher and hangs there. The fans are on and my coolants full, installed new stock t-stat and no change. It will almost go to red, but if I stop and idle for awhile (10min. or so) the gauge will start to come down and stay at 1/2 way untill i floor it or drive at high rpms too long. If I drive it normal(like a grandma) it will stay 1/2 way all day even in 113 degree heat. Sometime I have to turn the heater on to help cool the engine down to the 1/2 way mark when driven as above.
I hear that the 94 Z28 temp gauges lie sometimes, is this true and maybe have a false reading? Any info would be of help, THANKS,,,,,,,,Fordkiller!!

no dude the guage is more than likely fine! you live in arizona its just HOT you should just do a sh*tload of cooling mods to your car! i would if i lived in arizona (well i did neways but thats not the point ) if you have never reprogramed your computer to have the fans come on sooner then you have a BIG problem there! the stock setting dont even let the fans come on until the car reaches 220*

1. coolant flush and refill
2. 160 stat
3. reprogram your fans to come on at like 182 for fan 1 and 185 for fan2
4. throttle body bypass
5. electric waterpump
6. yank off all the air pump and emissions crap
7. removed air conditioning condenser (now more air hits the radiator!)

cant think of anything else right now

those are just all the things i did, im not saying your gonna wanna do all of that stuff especially if you have to worry about emissions at least! i would DEFINATELY do 1,2, & 3 those WILL help out drastically!

If it cools fine at idle and at low RPM, and then overheats at higher speeds on the frreway, I would suspect that the air dam might be missing or damaged. I found that when I drove my car without the air dam, even with a huge Griffen radiator and both fans running full time, the coolant temperature would start to climb.

Thanks for the input...The air dam on my car is perfect...
I'll do the flush and t-stat now....I cant reprogram pcm for awhile--does this matter?? Does anyone here have a cheap quick fix to turn the fans on sooner??.....REMOVE AC Condensor !!!!
NO WAY it was 116 degrees here today!!!!!!!
As far as the electric waterpump does anyone have any idea how reliable they are and if they flow enough water in the desert?
thanks fordkiller...

You could put in a manual fan switch.
