TB Question

Is it possible to go with a bigger Throttle Body now even though I don't believe that I need it?

I might have a deal on a 52mm Throttle body for Future use but I was wondering if I got it and installed it now would it hurt performance? Help? Same?

Thanks in advance!

It's not going to hurt engine performance. The only thing that larger TB's are not so great on is the automatic tranny. I think most people do just fine with a 52mm TB and stock programming but it isn't ideal.

If this is for the '93 it's a bit easier of course.

If this is a rebored stock unit there shouldn't be any problems but many aftermarket TB's require some modifications to get them to work properly, FYI.

As long as it's made for a '93 (provisions for the TV cable) there shouldn't be too many problems.

What brand is the TB? Some TB's require an IAC bleed hole to be drilled and some types don't isolate the IAC plenum from the main plenum. It will still run with these "problems" but they often contribute to things like split BLM's and excessive IAC counts. I'm sure there are tons of people running with these problems and don't know it but I try to be a perfectionist A rebored stock TB is the best 52mm TB to buy IMO.

Another problem you may enncounter is IAC voltage out of range, which is an easy fix... you simply have to rotate the IAC sensor until the proper voltage is achieved at closed throttle. (requires volt meter or scan tool)

Some other problems to look out for is sticking throttle blades (can be adjusted with the set screw) and also loose/broken linkage which needs to be welded. Again, if this is a rebored stock unit you probably won't run into any of these potential problems.

If you're getting a deal it won't hurt to get it, you can always go back to the stocker if there were any problems to sort out. Don't expect a lot of power gains, but throttle response will be a bit snappier.
