TB coolant bypass

I noticed a lot of you guys are running a tb coolant bypass. The previous owner put a hypertech tb on this car... "94 Z 28" . What are the advantages of doing this mod. Thanks.

Re: TB coolant bypass

what your basically doing is rerouting your coolant so it doesn't pass through your throttle body, this is supposed to let the air coming in cooler, as hot coolant was raise the temp of incoming air, hence netting you some horsepower.

Re: TB coolant bypass

That makes sence. Is it a kit you buy or can you just bypass the lines?

What year car?

Why not make a signature with details on your car so we can zero in on the best advice? Not all LT-1's are the same.....

Re: TB coolant bypass

Nice try ... but the hose routing on his 94 is different than the 95-97 routing that Shoebox shows. For 93/94 you need to pull the two hoses off the throttle body and connect them together with a 3/8" barbed hose connector. On the 93/94 engines, the return from the steam pipe at the back of the heads goes directly to the radiator, not to the throttle body.

Re: TB coolant bypass

The difference is documented in the dyno chart I linked. You aren't going to feel a 6HP increase. And the "cooling" is cooler air into the intake manifold. There is no way to actually tell if its cooler, since the IAT sensor is before the throttle body.
