TB Cleaning...

quick question...

When I take off the TB to clean it, I assume there is a gasket. Is it reusable?

Thanks!

Yes. The gasket that fits in between the TB and the Intake is reusable, however there is another gasket on the TB plate(top part on the TB with 6 torq screws) which is very difficult to reuse because it is so flemzy. I reused mine after I cleaned the TB, but replaced it soon after.

there is a nice thick gasket between the tb and the intake. It will be reusable unless it somehow gets ripped or something while cleaning.

Go to your local GM dealership and get the TB gasket set, it comes with both gaskets and it's only about $10.

After cleaning my TB I had a problem with the idle hanging at a high RPM. I ended up dabbing a little oil on the butterfly rod (where it enters the housing) and the hanging RPM was solved. Also gently clean the IAC valve...it's fragile.

Are you just trying to clean the blades or soak the whole thing. You can dust the carbon off the blades with a TB Cleaner or Carb Cleaner (depending if there is a coating) without removing the whole TB.
