TB bypass leaking!!!
This thing was a pain in the *** to do and now its gone worse.
Today i noticed a puddle of coolant under my car at the bank after getting out. When the car is running its a very slight drip and is nothing bad, i personally think its just coolant still on the underside of the car just dripping off. Then when i turn off the car it drips a little more. then it starts dripping profusely. I located the source to be the TB bypass i did. Where i have the two hoses hooked up at the barb with the two clamps it is pouring out.
I was thinking of using some Seal All that I have in my garage but im not sure if I should because its flammable. The warning says:
contains methyl ethyl ketone and acetone. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Extinguish all sources of ignition during use and until all vapors are gone. So i dont know if that would mean only the vapors are flammable or the actual glue is. It says its gas and oil resistant so it could work on this right?
I just dont want to lose all my coolant to this dumb mod.
Thanks to all that help

Re: TB bypass leaking!!!
Sounds like you have a barb that may be too small, clamps that are too large, or a damaged hose. Why not find the problem and fix it rather than trying to cover it up with glue?
An additional thought.... only 93 and 94 need the "barb".... you don't even need it on 95-97 LT1's.
Why is the mod "dumb"?

Re: TB bypass leaking!!!
Since you have a 95 you do not even need a barb. Take the hose on the drivers side of the throttle body to the steam pipe off. You will not need this anymore. Then, put the hose on the drivers side onto the steampipe (where you took the drivers side off). For visual apperance, I put vaccum caps over the throttle body coolant passages. You dont need anything and actually take off a 4 inch long hose and two hose clamps. It is an acutal free mod. Did I feel an improvement from it? No SOPT but logically it makes sense.
I would not put glue on the connectors. If you are going to do this, do it right. Checking our bases here; Do you have the clamps tight?, Is it the right size barb fitting (3/8 I believe)? Cracked hose?.

Re: TB bypass leaking!!!
injuneer i apologize for using dumb but when i get frustrated.. i get frustrated.
thanks for the help none the less.
stephen deli: Do you have some kind of picture of what your saying. I have heard this before but I can never understand what people are saying because it sounds redundant. (if thats the word im looking for)
you said take the hose off the drivers side steam pipe.. i got that.
then you said Then, put the hose on the drivers side onto the steampipe (where you took the drivers side off). and thats where i got lost. because to me it sounds like your saying take the hose off and put it back on again.
sorry but im not the brightest around.

Re: TB bypass leaking!!!
Im going to try and make myself feel good and decipher what i dont understand so tell me if im wrong.
On the 95 theres a pipe that runs atop the passenger side valve cover. What i did was take the rubber hose connected to that and use the barb to connect it to the other hose that went into the drivers side of the TB. So i should cut the rest of the hose off of that pipe on the passenger side and just connect the hose from the drivers side to the PIPE running along the valve cover right?

Re: TB bypass leaking!!!
Yes you got it. Run the drivers side hose onto the steam pipe that runs along the passenger side valve cover. In the process you should eliminate the passenger side hose completely. Here is a picture from Shoebox's website showing it complete. Make sure that you keep the hose away from the pulleys. After I did mine it was rubbing on the ps pump I believe.
Re: TB bypass leaking!!!
Just think about it, its not hard at all. You take the hose off which the coolant is coming from and entering hte tb, and putting it on the hose which the coolant exits the tb on...thus by passing it.

Re: TB bypass leaking!!!
okay got that fixed.. thanks for all the help but i have one more question. To make more room i pulled the other hoses off the passenger side of the TB and the big one that goes into the top and then back into the valve cover i noticed isnt like really fastened down or anything to the valve cover.. it kind of just plugs in. is that normal?
Re: TB bypass leaking!!!
That's a vent line that supplies air from the TB to the valve cover, so that the air can be pulled through the crankcase to remove harmful vapor buildup, by the PCV valve.
The hose connects to a plastic elbow, and the plastic elbow pushes into a rubber grommet in the valve cover. If its loose, might need a new grommet.

Re: TB bypass leaking!!!
its not loose persay, it just isnt what i would call fastened so i was curious. but ill go check and then ask..
wonder where the grommet went...
edit* just went out and checked and i guess i underestimated my strength when removing it because i went out and gave it a tug and its nice and snug in there...
consider this thread complete.
