Can anyone tell me what year car this LT1 came out of?

Just picked up a complete LT1 motor from a guy for $100. The engine was basically disassembled except it still had the crank and the cam in it. The optispark looks identical to the one I pulled out of my 96' it's vented so it has to be either a 95' 96' or a 97'. Here are some casting #s that I've found. Can anyone tell me what year car it came out of and if the heads are the good castings?

Block:

V0114WTD

GM 5.7 LG SGT

Heads:

3362

10128374

No, it looks like the timing cover is from a 92-94 it's the first design because it doesn't have a crank position sensor and it has the small hole in the middle of it. Guess the guy gave me the wrong opti with the motor. What would I need for this to work in my 96? Just a new timing cover that will accept the crank position sensor? Anything else?

This will tell you what year it came out of (if not a factory replacement engine).

The heads number 10128374 were on 93-97 LT1's

There should be a vin number stamped on the engine block above the oil filter.
Look at the 10th digit, it should be a letter.

Model Year:
P = 1993
R = 1994
S = 1995
T = 1996
V = 1997

different cam to drive the new style optispark, and a crankshaft with a reluctor wheel for the CKP sensor

Re: Can anyone tell me what year car this LT1 came out of?

Ok, I found an "R" so it looks like it came out of a 94'. When I pull the motor out of my 96' I'm going to use that opti and I'm going with a new cam. What is a reluctor wheel? So I can't use the crank out of the 94' motor? Everyone says that the 561 head casting don't have alot to port and that the 643s are good. Are the heads I have any good?

94 crank will work fine

if you are using a aftermarket cam, your good

use the timing cover, opti, hub, balancer and the CKP reluctor(on crank, under the cover), you will need a vented opti timing set as well

So can I just buy a new CKP reluctor and put it on the 94 crank? Can you even do that? The part # is 10190917 and it's only about $10.

yes, as long as the 96/97 timing cover and dampener hub are used
