Takes awhile to start

Hey,

Just wondering if there is a cause for why my car takes so long to fire up, I will prime the fuel pump but it will crank for a good 5-7 seconds before firing by itself, but only when the engine is cold. If hot the engine will start up after only a few cranks.

any ideas?

That sounds exactly like the symptoms exhibited by one of my cars, a '94 Z28. It turned out to be a failing fuel pump that still pumped the gas but at a lower pressure and rate. Fuel filter might also be involved. The problem will gradually worsen until it won't start at all.

Good luck.

Throw a fuel pressure gauge on the Schrader valve and see how fast the fuel pressure drops off after the fuel pump primes.
