Takes 2 hands to get into Reverse on 6spd help
I woke up today and went to back out my car and i cant get it into reverse unless i use 2 hands and muscle it over and up???? it is a 6spd car would it be the reverse lockout solenoid?? or what i need to know fast any help would be great it was fine yesterday backed out went to work came home woke up this morning and then this??? i have no clue on what else it could be. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks Neil the car is a 1994 z with the t56 6 spd if you need that.
Go lift some weights.
I would be its your reverse lockout. this is what I would do in this order...1) Check the plug under the car see if its unplugged or something. 2) Pull shifter and see if the white "cup" around the shifter ball is moving. 3) Pull tranny and check to see if you have a bent shift fork.

I'd bet it's the reverse lockout. The Purple Pearl T/A I just bought was an auto that has a M6 swapped in, and the reverse lockout is not wired up. Gotta muscle it over there. I'd check the wiring to see if there's a break in it somewhere, check to see if the solenoid came unplugged, and even check the solenoid itself if you can't find a wiring problem.
If you apply 12 volts to the solenoid, it should give an audible click (meaning it released) and you should be able to shift into reverse. If it doesn't release when 12v is applied, your solenoid is bad.
I would check to make sure... consider the following. My car is an M6 conversion. Anyone who's done the conversion can tell you that if your clutch isn't disenguaging properly, the T56 will put up a fight going into reverse.
Here's a simple test:
If you push the clutch in, and you need to really muscle the shifter to get past the reverse lockout gate, BUT you can push the shfiter up into reverse easily, it's the lockout.
If the car fights all the way into gear (and maybe even kicks the shifter out of reverse if you don't hold it) then your clutch isn't disenguaging and you need to check the fluid.
Good luck!
