surging, bad idle, hardly drivable.

least that is what happened when mine went.

if it is acting funny, unplug the maf sensor. should put it into "limp home mode"
if it smooths out with the sensor unplugged it probably is bad.

least that worked for me.

Tap on the MAF with a screwdriver, if the engine RPM changes or sputters replace it.

When you unplugged your MAFS did you do it while your car was running or when it was shut off? If I unplug mine before I start my car it will not crank at all.

heres my problem , i did get a maf code the other day , i deleted it b/c i had to fix another problem , nto sure if it came back yet b/c i have rear 02 codes

my car feels like it hit a wall upon very hard acceleration, but at partial throttle or just cruisiing around its fine

my car wouldnt start the other day , id turn teh key teh ar would start and instantly die, it did it twice my buddy went under the hood and he said he wiggled the maf and teh car started right up , that coulda been a stroke of luck

Re: Symptoms of a bad MAF

Just unplug the maf and start the car. If your problems go away then you know its the Maf. It will run with it unplugged the car will just go into speed density mode, which is the way the 93 cars worked.

Re: Symptoms of a bad MAF

I think the same thing is happening to my car. I have a 97' Camaro SS. I took the car to the dealer a few days ago and they put in a new AIR Injection pump. After that when I got it back, the car doesnt idle as loud anymore and it's just not as fast anymore, you can notice it.

Re: Symptoms of a bad MAF

ok i got two codes one is
p0100 MAF circuit malfuntion , possible wireing problem
p0400 EGR flow

thin either of these can cause my problem? my car didnt do it today and teh car runs completely normal , the only problem i had today was it took 3 cranks to start my car

any insite on to whether one of these could be a reason for my problem and what to look for into fixing this?

Re: Symptoms of a bad MAF

I think I'm going through the same thing. The car is very hard to start without holding the gas. Once it's started it sounds like something is very wrong. Once you unplug the maf it runs like a champ and sounds better. Someone said you go into limp mode when the maf is unplugged, someone else said speed density mode. Which is it?
