Swapping PCM?

Would a pcm from a 96 6 speed z28 work on a similar year automatic?

Yes, but the PCM would not be controlling the transmission unless it is reprogrammed.

Exactly, you would need to get it tuned for your application.

So would i be able to pass a smog test with the automatic using the 6 speed pcm? I'm in CA and they use the dyno smog test here.

The 94+ automatic trannies are electronic driven so the PCM is going to have a big part in their role. If you don't have the correct programming in the PCM, then I don't see it working.

Hey 2000,

Thanks for all your replies.
In case you're wondering, my friend has 96 auto but he fried his pcm.
I have an extra one since I'm using obd1.

Thanks
Oliver
