swapping ls1 in place of lt1???
swapping ls1 in place of lt1???
i was wondering how much trouble it would be swapping an ls1 in place of an lt1? i just wasn't sure if you would have to change everything under the hood for it all to work properly or not. thanks
There are some threads on this, but I've heard that a '98 LS1 would be the least amount of work due to the wiring changes done in '99. From what I've read, you need the full engine + accessories + computer + tranny--not sure what else. I think there is a problem with the gas tank too.
Why not throw in a Ramjet 502, probly less money, confined wiring harness, 500+ HP and torque, then throw a 300 shot on top of that, for less than a 400hp ls1 swap, more weight, but hey, nothing 800hp wont fix
LS1 are faster up to a point, you can still build a stout LT1 car for less or as much as the cost of that swap and its going to be helluav lot faster than a stock LS1. If it was like a third gen I could see, but an Lt1 is still fairly potent plat form and with the right cam and a good set of heads, you can build a beast.
Its been done, unless my engine was dead, or I had money to spare (in a big way) I dont think I'd ever consider it, without just buying another car.
The engine is about an inch taller, so you may need a new hood, you could just try to get the whole front clip and use the fenders as well as an LS1 hood to fix that. I imagine the engine mounts are not the same, so you might want to nab thier crossmember too.
