surging?
surging?
so im new to how a cammed car drives and i have a hotcam and mods in sig. ive put about 1500 miles on the car with the current setup and had a question about a minor annoyance. when in gear, sometimes the car will have a bit of a lunge to it, like its trying to go on its on, but this occurs in a cyclic fashion. while this is going on the idle fluctuates from about 900-700 and back to 900. is this what is meant by cam surge or do i maybe have another issue going on. any input would be appreciated.
Re: surging?
After the mods in my sig.....Mine had pretty bad surging issues , and it also wasn't very smooth when taking off with light throttle from a stop like you mention, untill after 2500 or so....mine also wanted to almost stall everytime I came to a fast stop(real fun to drive
).....for the heck of it I removed my aftermarket throttlebody airfoil and the problem was lessened quite a bit(not fixed but better)...... the problem with mine ended up being that the existing IAC bypass hole between the throttle blades (behind the airfoil) was much too small now with the lessened low RPM vaccum from the new cam......I enlarged the hole one drill size at a time till the problem pretty much completely subsided.....without the aftermarket airfoil in the way, the hole only needed to be slightly enlarged to cure the problems, but since I wanted the airfoil back in if possible, I continued to enlarge the hole again untill the problem was solved, even "with" the airfoil in place(A 1/4 in drill size was the one I settled on)..........and I also cracked the throttle blades open a bit more......might not be your problem, but It might be worth a shot...
