Thank god someone pointed out that it's actually slower before I did , I was reading up to this point and just said to myself... "Why?!?!"

You keep the speed of the tires and car up higher and therefore go faster.
If the tires are spinning faster than you are traveling while going through a turn then you are NOT using the full turning potential of that tire. It can't accelerate AND turn faster than a tire just turning... If they turned faster lap times "drifting" then they are not taking the correct angle of the turn... Have you ever noticed why F1 and Indycars DON'T drift completly through every turn? (They do drift very very slightly around the apex because they are on the very edge of traction on all 4 tires but nothing even close to what people were implying earlier)

I think it would be really cool to have a camaro that not only rips it up on the straights but can destroy in the hair pins as well. My rice friends always talk sh*t when it comes to our (american) cars handling, ill destroy them in a straight but im no match for there handling. I would love to just pull on them in a drift!
Another person who thinks that the F-Body can't handle for crap... Did you know that the Z28 has NEVER came with a Big block? Why?... Because it's primary purpose was for Road Racing, NOT drag racing... With just bigger sway bars and a 1" drop an F-body posted better slalom (sp?) speeds than a C5 Vette, not to mention bone stock they are not too far behind a vette... Unless they are driving Miata's/Z3's you should have no problem keeping up with your friends in a hairpin...

The 4th gen camaro is terrible for drifting by the way
Simple reason why.... because they were designed with handling in mind just as much as acceleration...

With a good driver the F-body is one of the best "bang for the buck" all-around cars you can buy... If they were made for drag racing they would come with SC'ed Big blocks with skinnes, ET Streets, no sway bars, no front shocks, etc...

Yeah, i believe dat on ashphalt etc there is no way u will go round a corner faster by drifting then just goin round a corner with all traction, i live in australia and we got holdens (gm parts) and ford V8 supercar racing her annd we got tracks that are complete ashphalt and have hairpins and strong turns and if they new that then they would be drifting round every corner faster, but thats not the case, theyt actually lean the wheels inwords so it gets maximum traction round a corner cause u can see the car being thrown out and doin a slight wheely on the 2 side wheels

I always thought real drifting wasn't just doing it for one turn or once, but was done throughout a whole race track??

Drifting isn't neccesarily the slowest way around a track, but it's far from the fastest (Unless we're talking rallying in the dirt). I'm not much for drifting myself, but I think that most people who drift competitvely are in control of their car and know what they're doing.

Again it's all down to the driver what's easy and what's not easy.

I had this video where 5 240SX's on a team were drifting in unison. They were going around turns like they were parked next to each other. It was really cool.
I say a rally race where they did that on ICE!!

It is funny how people "hate" a kind of racing. I do not like Nascar but am glad it is there for the people who do.

And Grendal, I haven't been watching any tv. I saw this in an import mag. I don't buy them but instead borrow them from a friend at work to pass the time and to keep educated about the competion. Like it or not, there are plenty of imports and even "ricers" that would own you on the strip.

The contest, Skarodom, is the weekend of the 22 of August. I can't remember exactly where but it is in Charlotte.

And another thing, pro drifters don't use hard tires. They use relatively sticky tires compared to normal street tires. Read up if you don't understand.

I have never done it but it looked cool. If I could do it once and have a picture taken, that would probably be fine with me. I would rather drag race and that is what I do.
