Summitt Opti Spark

Has anyone used a Summitt Racing optispark, and if so how has it worked out?

I believe that the summit unit is the same as the Accel unit which came out a few years back. If the description of it talks about a bushing instead of ball bearing, than they probably are infact the same unit.

That was my story.

I used one on a 97ss MM6 383ci D1 app. Failed in one year. The encoder would not work when the engine came to op temp. Engine would stop on the road multiple times. Lifted the hood and applied force to the connector, and, engine would restart.

I think the encoder had a bad solder joint @ the PCM power input pin. I went to a different opti. The high voltage and rear bearing were OK. Summit would not take a return due to it being 2 months older than 1 year from purchase. The encoder 4 pin connector will not fit good on these opti's. I fixed by removal of some of the plastic near the connector retaining clip for full pin engagement and secure detent. Hope this helps. B.

I am not sure what their literature says about bushings or ball bearings, but you are probably right. Thanks for the information.

Summit or Accel optis. Avoid like AIDS.
I had a Accel that had sparks shooting out the cap, the encoder wheel windows screwed up and the encoder wheel rubbing the optical sensor. Total ****.

Only get a GM opti.

Put a Summit opti on a year ago, failed out of the box and may have possibly been linked to frying my ECM...not definitive, just a warning
