Summit fabricated valve cover pics
mdacton, I think those are more along the lines of what I was hoping for. They look like they have a nice 1/4" thick billet rail around the bottom and the metal cover itself for the gasket surface. Got a part number for those suckers?
BTW, how did it catch fire? hope it wasnt too bad. Thats always been a fear of mine. I actually have thought about putting a fire bottle in my car "just in case"
I have seen the Cantons... they basically weld a few clips and rails around the bottom of the cover to hold the stock rubber gasket in place while you bolt it on. I know for a fact the LT1 specific cover with the alternator notch won't fit. The notch in them is so severe it literally wouldnt clear the rocker stands by a huge amount. But they do make another version without the notch. I just dont know about them because they dont have a rail. They are built just like these Summit covers. No rail around the bottom which I am now not a big fan of.
edit: I think I found the Moroso covers...

they look nice but, ouch! those suckers are also on the expensive side at $360 + breathers. I will keep those in mind but since they are also on backorder till mid January I think I am going to try the Proform cast covers first for $130

those are the right ones...they are pretty expensive you may want to try racingjunk.com I found mine used with the matching stud girdles for 250
btw stock fuel line was what caused the fire, i went AN front to rear
i had the stock lines pop off 2 times, the retainer springs get weak in the quick connects
