Summit fabricated valve cover pics

Well I tried it and they just dont work so well. I love the look, and they will easily clear my Jesel Shaft mounts but they dont fit so well. Here is what they looked like:

As you can see the far valve cover has a large gap of .290" when its bolted down so the gasket wont even come close to sealing without some modification. I bought a set of cork gaskets in an attempt to make it work but here it is with the gasket in there:

another problem spot is the top left of the cover to head joint. they dont line up very well. The flat side of the cover is actually sitting way inside of the rail on the head and they might leak. I'm sure with some tweaking I could keep it sealed up.

I'm sure I could make these work if I cut down the bolt tubes a bit but if I do that I cant return them if the corner leaks. I'm going to put them back in the box and return them. I'm going to look for something with a rail on the bottom that can use the factory valve cover seals.

BTW, I posted this cause I know these covers have been questioned many times. I searched numerous ways and never found anyone who tried them so I tried it. I think I can find a better cover to clear the Jesel's and still look good and seal up great.

what I really wish is that these Trickflow heads were set up with perimiter bolt holes also. The bolt hole surfaces were there but look like they were machined down. I wish I had them welded and drilled before I put the heads one.

I would run these then...

Do you think these would fit stock LT1 heads the right way?

Thats too bad, those would really complement your setup nicely. Do they make such a thing as a valve cover spacer that would suck up some of that gap?

If they dont fit these they probably wont fit on a stock head either. Atleast I am not willing to shell out $200 for these and have to cut and bang on them to make them fit.

I dont know about a spacer...honestly what they need to have is just cut down the bolt tubes a bit. But I would rather return them andfind something else that is more of a direct fit. I gotta start worring about height here too soo. As they sit they are as tall at the intake. I would still have to drill holes for breathers or make a PCV connection.

The ProForms are the only valve cover I've found to clear the Jesel shaft rockers, (with a little bit of grinding on the inside of the valve cover).

LINK at Summit Store

Billet Fabrication makes a very nice and expensive set of centerbolt valve covers that will fit over the shaft rockers also.

Yea, I did the same thing as you a few years back with those Summit fabricated covers and found out they leak. I won't give away those valve covers. You did the smart thing in sending them back.

Its almost like the bolt holes are not set in the right place. If all the holes were installed 1/8" more to the left and the cover was 1/4" wider they would fit great. All that would be required is to cut down the bolt stands by ~1/4" and you would be good to go. I opted to put em back in the box and look elsewhere.

Thanks for the heads up on the proforms. They look just like a set I am going to borrow from a friend of mine to see if they fit. I think his are a GMPP cast aluminum cover that are chromed... they look identical to those Proform covers.

what we really need is someone to make a fabbed set with a billet rail for the stock gasket

You are right. The GM's are the same as the ProForm.
when I bolt mine down, I push a bit toward the direction of the intake and then tighten the bolts which gives quite a bit more rocker space.

I bet your Jessels will clear the ProForms. T&D clear but only after some grinding on the inside of the valve covers.

Recently when I attended PRI, I searched and searched for a company that had readymade centerbolt valve covers with shaft rocker clearance. Only found Jeff Johnston's Billet Fabrication, (and already knew about them). His stuff is of excellent quality but very costly. Then there is the ProForm (GMPP) and I know they will fit but that's it for our choices. (accept for the fabricated type like the Summit).

There is also the Canton fabricated cover but it's buh tugly and still quite a bit too tall.

Brian,
Yes, mine are made by ProForm and marketed through GMPP. did you get my message earlier about the measurements?
