Success on LTs install!

Just wanted to tell everyone that I successfully installed the Jet Hot long tubes this weekend. Started it up (for about 30 seconds) and it sounded MEAN straight headers! I Have a couple things I still have to do to get finished...

1) A plug wire is hitting a header, gotta fix that

2) Need a new battery, I think this one is dead, that's why my car only ran for 30 seconds! (even after charging )

3) Install the Y-pipe

4) Zip tie up the O2 extensions

And to anyone who installs in the future:

Someone on this thread recommended wrapping the tape in painters tape or medical bondage, well if you use tape don't go ape crazy. I spent OVER TWO hours pealing the damn tape off the passenger side! I said screw it, and pealed all the tape off the driver side header before i put it in, and just left about 4 carefully placed strips to protect a couple areas. Those were easy to get off. Don't tape up your whole header!

So anyway, I think I could do a LT header install in one day now. I figured out exactly how to do it. Boy at 1st I thought, what the hell did I get myself into, but finally got them in, actually once I had the engine and stuff situated, they both went in pretty easy.

Congrats! Its funny how it takes a few days the first time, and now I think I could do it in a few hours, I spend too much time working on cars.

Took me a few days too, but I was primarily by myself. All in all, I'd say the LT install is fairly simple.

heh, thanks Doug.

Passenger side went in from the top, driver side from the bottom. you have to jack the engine up for both sides to get them to fit the easiest.

FastWhiteTA,

How do you jack up the motor? I mean, where do you place the jacks? I plan doing LTs this winter, but when I look at my engine compartment I'm like "there's no way I'm gonna slip a LT header down here" and always get discouraged.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Very carefully...take out the motor mount bolt on the side you want to go up, then put a jack underneath the oil pan, make sure there is a block of wood between the jack and the oil pan, otherwise you will crush your pan. I used a phonebook cause I couldn't find a block of wood, and I crushed in the center of my oil pan about 1/2" to 3/4". It's fine, but I didn't like the fact that is smashed in a little. For the driver side I used a hard back book combined w/ the phone book. That was better than just the phone book, but still not as good as a 2x4 or a 2x6. Just ease it up and don't leave it jacked up too long.
