stupid question

this might be dumb but i would like to know anyways. would i be able to start my engine with out the transmisson on connected to the fly wheel? i just want to know cuz i need a torque converter and i just want to hear my new engine rumble!!

Ya I would think you can. I have never seen it done - but don't see how it would hurt anything.

How are you going to go about this? You need the starter to be connected to the flywheel for the engine to be turned. I mean somebody correct me if im wrong!

I've seen engines run without trannys; however, they've been on test stands.

I think he means that the flywheel will be on - but the tranny just won't be connected to it. I don't see why this would be a problem....

Why not just use the starter...??

The transmission being off has no effect on the starter working or not

Nope - not at all. The nose of the starter just goes into a hole cut out in the bell-housing. But the transmission doesnt support it at all

The 2 bolts holding the starter up are bolted directly into the engine block

Sounds right to me, I always though as long as the crank is balanced by both damper and flywheel, all is well

ok kool. so i can do it? is there anything i should watch out for? the engine does move alot when the tranny isnt connected to it.
