Stumbled Onto An LT1 on Craigslist
I was looking for a new t56 for my 94 on craigslist. I stumbled onto one from a 96 z28. The guy selling it also had the engine to go with it and was originally planning on putting it into a Nova. I got a killer deal on the engine and transmission so I drove the two hours to pick them up. When I got there, he had a whole pile of stuff that was going with it. Included was the full wiring harness, MSD 6a, all the accessories off the front, PCM, bell housing, clutch set, ect…. Basically everything needed to install it into any random car. That was a pleasant surprise because you never know what you might need for your car. Anyways, he said it all came from a '96 Z28. After I got home, It didn't take long to start noticing a few inconsistencies. First, if I'm correct, they didn't start using the Tremecs until '97. Also, the intake manifold and fuel rails are 92-93 LT1 specific. The fuel lines go to the drivers side so it must come from a 93 f-body and not a Corvette. It does have Crane Gold 1.6 roller rockers and Canton valve covers so its not stock. I'm not sure at this point what all has been done to the motor but my question is… where can I find as much info as possible on the variations of LT1's from 92-97? A '96 Z28 with a '93 engine and '97 transmission doesn't make much sense to me. Thanks for any help and sorry for the long story

DSA bought Warner Gear Division from Borg Warner sometime in 1997. I bought a spare T56 from a 1997 30th Anniversary SS, and it was a Borg Warner. Is there a slave cylinder with throwout bearing bolted to the front cover? If so that would be from an LS1. LT1 trans has the slave cylinder mounted on the bell housing.

Its definitely a tremec from an LT1 car. I have the slave cylinder with it. Another question…. did the OBD1 PCM's from 93 look different from the OBD1 PCM's from 94? It looks completely different than my 94 so my first thought was that it is an OBD2 from 96 which would've made sense. Ive heard of some people going with the 93 setup to not use the MAP sensor and go with density sensing but i'm just not sure in this case. I still need to pull it completely apart and check specs on the cam and lower rotating assembly. You never know what you end up with when dealing with some people on craigslist.

93 ECM only has 3 connectors in a straight row. 94 and up has 2 pairs of 2 connectors. 93 is speed-density, not using an MAF sensor. 94 up runs the MAF sensor, but can also run in speed-density. Other differences - 93 is batch-fire injection (94+ is full sequential), 93 uses removable PROM chip (94+ flash programmed fixed chip), 93 can be scanned for codes by shorting ALDL pins (94+ requires OBD-1 scanner/96+ OBD-2), 93 ECM controls only engine (94+ PCM controls engine/trans), 93 has single wire unheated O2 sensors (94+ uses 4-wire heated sensors).
