Stroker Rebuild LT1?
Stroker Rebuild LT1?
hey guys
i want to rebuild my motor this winter
the motor is slowly dying and i'd like a rebuild stroker motor with a nice cam
my idea was to buy a short block and rebuild that, so that i could still drive my car around and when the time comes remove my motor, put all the electrical and ignition stuff on the rebuilt motor and install that
heres my questions
can anymore recommend a stroker rebuild kit?
anyone know anyone that can rebuild lt1s?
what you gus think?
thanks

Re: Stroker Rebuild LT1?
There is a good book specifically on rebuilding the LT1. I can't think of the title, but it should be easy to find on amazon.com as "LT1" and "rebuilding" are both in the title.

It's a good book. Not a "how-to" guide, but a good source of general info on building a performance small block.

Re: Stroker Rebuild LT1?
I'd peice your own together,
Scat 9000 stroker crank (cast steel)(3.75 stroke 1 peice rear main seal.
Scat I beam rods (6" or 5.7 ",depending on how you want to go)
SRP pistons.
Then you just have to find rings bearings and a gasket set, most any performance outlet can get this stuff.
You could build the kit for around 1100$ and have a rotating assembly good for a little over 500 rwhp.
The block will need to be bored (with torque plates),clearanced for the stroker, along with new cam bearings and freeze and galley plugs. At this time you'll have to decide if you want the blocks head surfaces decked.
An option is to add some 4 bolt main caps while its in the machine shop, but it's not a must unless you plan on making serious power.
Where I would spend the majority of my money is on the heads, get the best that you can afford.
There is a nice book out there now, its called "how to build big inch Small Block Chevrolets" It has alot of good info in it, but you have to ignore the stuff about traditonal 4.125 bore sbcs since the LT1s bore is limiting.
