Question Stripped Oil Drain Plug???

Ok, did an oil change this past weekend and I think I over-torqued the drain plug because once it got to a certain point it started to just spin. It's on tight but I'm concerned if I stripped the plug or the thread on the pan. What do you guys think???

You probably just stripped the drain plug. It seems to be made of softer metal than the pan threads. It shouldn't be a big deal to remove provided there is still enough thred on the plug to spin it out. If it's completly striped out you'll probably have to use vice-grips and plull on the plug to 'help' the threads grab. Be sure to clean the threads on the pan before you put in a new plug. Hope this helps...

I did the same thing about 3,000 miles ago. When I tightened it up back then I remember it spinning just a little and thinking darn I screwed up some more threads. when will I learn...anyways I striped the pan threads not the bolt so I went to autozone and they gave me a new bolt that would tap new threads so I used that and screwed it up even more. b/c the cars low to the grown, and it's at a diff. angle and you have to put a wrench on it to get it rethreading right but when I would turn it it would throw it off a little. B/c it wasn't a balenced force been applied to it. If that makes any sense whatsoever; the direction your turning the wrench is which way the bolt wants to reangle. if i had to do it all over again I would of just used a standard tap and die set i think it would of been easier b/c you woundn't have that problem. So now that I messed it up bigger than the biggest tap I have I went ahead and got a used pan off of ebay. hope this helps
