strange noise at idle?
strange noise at idle?
I'm hoping somebody can help me out with this...
My car is a 97 SS A4 with minor bolt-ons, when the car is cold or has sat for a while (like in the morning) it makes a strange knocking/thumping noise from the front of the car. It is very noticeable when the car in in gear at a stop light, but if you put it in park or neutral the sound gets very faint. The sound is non-existant when driving. Also, I can feel it through the steering wheel and pedals and it is very sparatic (no rhythm) and the knocks/thumps are very close together (multiple times per second).
Anybody have any idea what it could be

I've had this happen with every Z28 I've owned. Mine has been where there is a major bend in the exhaust pipe. The bend was moving and tapping the floorboard. I just had another mount added for the pipe. It only did it at speeds below 25mph.
