Mine took 410wrhp and 510tq for a while. Then I put a new chain in and traded the spray for a cam.

Friend of mine ran his lt1 on stock chain with 400wrhp for a long time. Spun a bearing before he hurt the chain. Though it was stretched some.

If you are planning to build that high I say spend the money now and do it right. I wish I had a electric waterpump for power and then I could have bought a cheap really good timing set.

Well the the reason i ask is because i have found that the LT4 extreme duty chain needs a vented opti? I really dont want to convert to the vented system. My non vented lasted up till now (145,000) miles and its still going.

Are there other options?

If you're going to build a 500 HP setup, why skimp on the timing chain? A stock chain is quite a bit weaker than a roller chain and will stretch more which can retard the timing (at best), especially with a 430-440 rwhp setup.

Just not worth risking it IMO.

I have used the stock chain for 10 years running 11s and tons of street driving...When we freshened the top end this year I just installed a new factory chain which is what LPE suggested...I make 400rwhp and have had no issues since 1995...

The stock chains tend to stretch after some time on a built up motor, but rarely does one break.

I know several people who used a stock chain on their setups...All over 400RWHP h.p.

I put the Lunati timing set in my 383 when it was built. So far so good. **knock on wood**

I would spend the money and get the LT4 set for the car. In the long run, its not that much money.

Additionaly, I would NOT switch to an electric waterpump and then convert to another timing set up. Electric waterpumps are ideal for a built motor that is driven in traffic. It flows more at idle, and cruising. At Red line, the stocker actually flows better. And it is more reliable
