stock rebuild high oil pressure

Thought the high pressure was due to being a rebuild but after about 400 miles its still high. cold idle is 60psi, warm idle is 40psi, cruising its at 60psi and at WOT it only goes up to about 64psi. Changed the pressure sensor and it's still the same. will it go down after some more miles? The pump is just a stock replacement.

Looks good to me. Try putting an aftermarket gauge on there to see for sure however, I would not worry at all standard volume and high pressure is good. It may have the white GM spring inside which is for high pressure

Why do you think that is bad? If your bearing clearances were on the tight side, your hot idle pressure might trend to be a little higher than most. Also, you don't indicate the oil you are using.

I don't know what's bad and what isn't. I'm no expert. I just worry.... So I turn to this site for assurance. It's 5w30. Just changed it today after 400 miles on build.

Just didn't know if high pressure was a sign of something not right inside.

60 is not high. I don't see a reason to worry. People usually complain about real low hot idle pressure. Yours is real good.

What oil filter are you using?

Fred brings up a good point. Alot of reported failures with the fram filter and I am sure they may make some of the other generics. I also would imagine some may perform better with your higher idle pressures. Might be well worth checking with a mechanical guage to confirm your readings. Certain oils have different flow characteristics given their weight especially synthetics. Might notice small differences there.

I use the cheap Fram filters. Never had a problem but I will use a different brand if you guys suggest so.

Personally I would run wix or the napa brand that wix makes for a filter that most parts stores will stock. Another member uses (I believe moroso) and I read up on their filter and was interesting. I was looking into all this with my low oil pressure. I have had mechanics say for years not to run fram. I have read of several others saying the same and have heard of some of the failures. Definately worth the few extra dollars in my opinion.

If you have read anything on car boards, you should not be using a Fram filter.

If I recall correctly, I run an ACDelco 454 filter. I'm not sure where they stand compared to other filters now, but I've had no issues with them.

Re: stock rebuild high oil pressure

Problem is, the test results change from year to year. The Fram filters got their reputation based on a physical examination of the filters, done at least 15 years ago. A recent study had bad results for the AC Delco filters. Hard to keep up with the tech.

Here's an interesting site, that appears to use valid scientific methods. I am not endorsing this site, just bringing it to your attention. I found it interesting.

Note that the "weighting" of factors used to develop the numerical "grade" may not match your priorities.
