Stock injectors on 383?
Stock injectors on 383?
I bought my car off of a friend of mine who was in the process of building up a 383 for it. After getting the forged shortblock built, he changed his mind and bought a C5. I offered to buy the car but I couldn't afford to do the top end yet so he just put all the stock stuff back on from the original motor except for a custom cam (227/232 I think) and some beefier springs. I'm a little concerned about the stock injectors though, he says they'll be fine with the stock heads but I just want to double check. Other mods include LT's, catback, and CAI. The car is currently at his shop getting some other "issues" ironed out, so I figured if it was good idea to upgrade the injectors, now would be the time to do it while he's got the intake off. I probably won't be able to do the top end for another year or two so I want to make sure this setup will last me that long. I was also wondering if 1.6 RR's would help me at all w/ my stock headed (i.e. choked) 383? Or should I just put that $$ towards heads? Thanks
Re: Stock injectors on 383?
This is the only info I have so far, should have a spec sheet when I get the car back.
Eagle crank and rods, speed pro forged pistons, moly rings, clevite bearings, fel pro gaskets, 227/233/112 cam

Re: Stock injectors on 383?
The stock 24#/hr injectors should be ok to fuel the motor up to around 5500 rpm, give or take. If you're talking about reusing the stock 95 (11 year old) injectors, I don't think that's a great idea.
The extra lift/duration from the 1.6 rockers aren't going to make a big difference on a stock headed 383. If you buy some, get a set you can swap over to the new heads when you get them. The Comp Pro Mags are a great set of rockers, just invest in the NSA versions and a set of GM guide plates and hardened pushrods.

Re: Stock injectors on 383?
Stock heads you don't need new injectors but I think that 383 will run like **** with stock heads but you'll have hella torque. If you have a good set of heads/cam/tb then I'd go no less than 36#.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll just stick with the stock injectors until I can do the top end.
Re: Stock injectors on 383?
Your gonna have to pay to have the PCM tuned for the 383 and cam, and agina later when you eventually get injectors. I'd just spend the money now for the injectors and possibly avoid problems later, but like others have said. The stock ones will probably be OK if they are working and flowing good.
