stock bottom + afr heads == et?
Re: stock bottom + afr heads == et?
Hmmm.
I had originally ordered the 227s from AI, but phil called AFR and asked about the 227 castings for me. He said they were going to require offset stud girdle, shaft mount rockers etc etc. Oh well, sorry if my info is/was wrong, just going what others have told me first hand. I ended up with the 220s instead.
On the other hand, maybe i misunderstood exactly what phil was telling me, some of you guys talk way above my level.

No need for apologies atljar. I take it that Phil hasn't actually set the valvetrain up on a set of 227s if he's calling AFR. That's ok... just making a point.
There is alot of misinfo out there and it can get confusing. Larry and myself are speaking from actual experience with these heads. I think Larry is running a set on his project motor. My experience with them is in working on them... never have bought a set.
Granted, the setup will look a little odd when all is said and done. The intake rockers will sit slightly off the centerline of the valve stem. With a lash cap you'd hardly even notice. No worries... just need to correct that with either the Isky adjustable guideplates or the AFR's. The AFR guideplates have a rather large hole (for the stud) which gives you enough play room to get everything dialed in. Just a FYI.

Keep us updated on how it all comes together.
Re: stock bottom + afr heads == et?
Good info
Now I wish i had the 227s, oh well to late now as i waited 2.5 months for my heads from AFR, not waiting again lol.. Doubt it will be a tremendous difference in power. Cheers all.
