Are all stock LT1 cranks cast? And how much hp can they..
Re: Are all stock LT1 cranks cast? And how much hp can they..
Yes they are. They are also about the best SBC OEM cast crank GM has ever made. With some cleaning up of the casting marks and work to make them cut thru the oil in the crankcase better they will make a great crank for a 355.
430rwhp is about 500hp at the flywheel and yeah they should be able to take that easy.

The LT1 uses a nodular iron cast crank. Nodular iron is a process of aligning the iron particles when they are being cast, grouping them tighter together for more strength. It's cheaper to make than a forged crank of course.

My buddy is running a 355 with a cast crank and 2 bolt mains. He's running 10.3 on a 150 shot and 11.4 on the motor. I'm pretty certain I'm using a cast crank in the 355 I'm collecting parts for.
