Do you mean use your stock block without any reconditioning? As a minimum, have it tanked, and examined for cracks, then bored, and clearanced for the 383 crank. Have the mains checked for alignment, and align bored if not up to spec. A 4-bolt conversion is not necessary at the HP levels you are looking at.

An LS1/LS6 injector will "work" in your LT1, but you won't gain much of anything. The LS1/LS6 injectors are flow rated at 58psi, and will flow 13.6% less than rated when used at the LT1's 43.5psi. If you aren't going over 400 "flywheel" HP, you could get by with the stock 24# injectors. If you mean 400rwHP, you might want to consider 30# injectors.

One "helpful" hint, based on some of the problems I've seen posted recently..... be sure they clearance the block for the crank BEFORE they do any other machine work. There have been a couple people posting problems with shops grinding through the water jacket, on a block that has already been fully machined. Makes it a much more expensive "repair".

Is there a lot of clearancing nessasary with a 383? How much clearance should you have between the block and crank/rods?

Just clearanced a block this spring for a 383, didn't take much work at all with the dremmel.
Make sure you have the .060 clearance like they discussed above.
