stock 94z28 need tips
i noticed i have an airpump and i want to get rid of it. i know it robs hp and i was wondering if they made a special pulley kit for the serp belt. i also want to know about a computer chip. these cars get decent gas mileage and i want to know if it affects it at all. one last thing, its an automatic, i want to do a torque converter and shift kit. any ideas? thanks.

The air pump doesn't steal horsepower and ti's not run off the serpentine belt either. It only runs for a few minutes. The only real advantage to removing it is to clean up the engine compartment and drop about 7 pounds of weight.
As for a chip that depends ont he year car. Only 93s need to have chips burned. the 94 and newer cars have a programmable PCM. This leaves you with several options. One is mail your PCM off to someone like pcmforless.com for example and have them send you the PCM back with the new tuning. Or you can have them e-mail you a .bin file with the necessary changed and purchase an OBD cable from AKMCABLES.COM and use a laptop/pc to upload the tun to your computer by yourself. Lastly you can buy software like tunercat or LT1-Edit and do the tuning yourself. Tuning will affect gas mileage - either for better or worse, that depends on what you do to the tuning.

Before you go stalling your car with a shift kit you may want to look into some mods to give you a reason to leave the line at a higher rpm. For instance Longtube Headers, Cold Air Induction, and a quality Catback exhaust. Those are the big three first bolt on mods. You can shave your 1/4 mile time down significantly without opening up the engine or transmission. The only reason I took off my AIR pump was because the headers I got a deal on didnt have emissions, otherwise it would still be there. With that stall you talk about I would look into ways to hook when you leave the line at 3000 rpm. Like some drag radials and lower control arms.
