starting problems

Today when i started my car it ran for about 30 seconds it was a little rough running then stalled out. i tried to start it back up and it would not fire. i pulled a plug and it was soaked and black , the plugs are irridiums brand new and only ran in the car once. I should add that i live in Canada and it is about 14 fahrenheit. My wideband gauge is reading anywhere from about 14.0 to 18.0

Re: starting problems

14.0 - 18.0:1 way too lean for cold start at 14*F, but then you say the plugs are soaked. Sounds like its not firing on all cylinders, and blowing the excess air through the exhaust. You should be single-digit rich in cold-start enrichment mode. What is your coolant temp gauge telling your PCM the coolant temperature is?

Re: starting problems

the factory coolant line is not hooked up i have an aftermarket autometer gauge. I do have suspicion that it is not firing all cylinders how can i check all areas to find the problem. I did tests on the opti a while back and the numbers were all within the range they should have been, but this car was in a fire a couple years ago and i reused the same opti that would have most likely gotten wet... the injectors are the same as well i could not see any damage due to fire on them again i cant be sure though.

Re: starting problems

The PCM needs a coolant temp input. That sensor is totally separate from the temp sensor for the guage. The sensor for the PCM is located in the water pump housing. The sensor for the gauge is located in the dirver's side head. If the PCM sensor wasn't hooked up, you'd have an SES light, and the fans would probably be running all the time.

Re: starting problems

Free scanning software (Datamaster, Freescan, etc.), and an interface cable (www.akmcables.com).
