starting problem
starting problem
Hey all, my car seems to have a problem starting when the engine is hot. If i start it when its cold, it starts up fine, but after driving and the engine warms up, if i shut it off and try to start it back up, the lights and such comes on but the starter wont crank. I will have to hold the key for a while before it'll start to crank. I am assuming its my starter going on its way out? or if you have any other suggestions as well b4 i have the starter changed. It will be helpful.

yeah I figurd it'd be the starter. What would I wrap it in to prevent the heat from gettin to it much. any place I can buy it online perhaps, maybe a discount auto store like struass? autozone? napa?
Stay away from cheap s@$t starters at street auto parts stores. Either GM or better yet something like Summit or Jegs. You can get the heat wrap there too. Try this before you spend 150.00. After the car is warm and exhibits the problem, get a can of freeze spray from and electrical parts store similar to Radio Shack (the Shack might have it but I doubt it) and cool the starter down while its hot.
If the problem goes away, you proved your theory for 3 dollars. If not start asking the others in this forum. A little trouble shooting goes a long way to save money. Personally I hate shot gunning. Good luck.
