Unhappy Starting Problem!

I have been experiencing a problem with starting my Z28 ever since i got it, which was about maybe a month ago. (Its a 95 Camaro Z28 all stock with a 6spd)

If i go to start it sometimes it will start and then immediatly idle down and shut it self off within not even a second. Maybe half of the time. So what i do is when i go to start it i give it a bit of gas, so that when it starts the rpms right away shoot up to maybe 2500-3000 rpm. That almost always cures the problem. But even in the event of that it seems like it will start up on maybe half its cylinders (4 of 8) at which point the car runs extremely shakey and knocky, and just wants to completly stall, unless i give it gas to keep the rpms up.

However if i dont use this technique and it does shut off, when i go to restart, the engine turns over myabe 8 to 10 times b4 actually starting. Im thikning because the engine gets a bit flooded from the previous bad start.

Can anyone help me out on this one? Thanx in ahead!

Re: Starting Problem!

I would first confirm the fuel pressure is coming up and holding where it should. If you don't know how long it's been since it had a tune up, maybe it's a good time to do it. When buying a used car, it's always a good idea to assume the worst case and that most if not all tune-up related parts should be changed. One other thing, there are some operating DTC's that do not set the SES light. It may be a good idea to scan it for codes.
