Starting New engine ?

How do u get oil everywhere before starting your fesh motor... its not like we can pull the distributor to turn the oil pump shaft so is there another way?

I have a fresh 383 build that should be in car ready for starting this weekend but IM wondering how I can prime it up.

Thanks in advance

EDIT* Nevermind i havent put intake on yet so ill just do it the old drill fashioned way but is there anything else I should look at other than the obvious...Im just afraid that i messed somethin up putting it back together even though i went through it over and over again...

Re: Starting New engine ?

I pulled all the plugs and spun it with the starter for a bit. You can spin the engine with no compression and it won't damage the bearings. I have headers with good plug access, so replacing the plugs didn't take too long. After I got the plugs and wires back on, I pulled the coil wire and the fuel pump fuse and cranked for a few seconds to make sure pressure was still up. It was, so I replaced the fuse and coil wire and started it.

A lot of people just pull the fuse for the injectors.

I have always primed mine before I put the intake on it. There is a tool that you can get that attaches to a drill motor to spin the oil pump. But if your intake is already on than I suggest what they said above.
